Home Builders Announce New President, Board

CHBA-CO Board of Directors 2023/2024
October 5, 2023

KELOWNA, BC – The Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Okanagan (CHBA-CO) announced today that Krista Paine is its new President. Paine is President of Ian Paine Construction and Design and brings a wealth of experience to the association as a Registered Interior Designer, Certified Red Seal Carpenter, and project manager. Krista has won multiple awards at the local, provincial, and national level and has previously been named Canada’s Renovator of the Year.

As a Registered Interior Designer, Red Seal Carpenter and owner of Ian Paine Construction, Krista will serve the membership as it looks to advocate for policies that support housing affordability and increase trades worker capacity. Krista also serves as a member of the Interior Designers of Canada’s advocacy committee, the BC Renovator Council, and as an educator at the Centre for Arts and Technology in Kelowna. Her extensive breadth of experience provides a multi-disciplinary array of knowledge to the Board that will help guide the local industry for the next two years.

“I am grateful for the trust placed in me by our remarkable board, executive team, and our talented members.” says Paine. “Our industry faces pressures from all directions, and the need for housing has never been greater. I am dedicated to serving our mission and advocating for our industry. I am committed to strengthening our industry, increasing our trades worker capacity, and building a brighter future for housing throughout Central Okanagan.”

Paine’s appointment comes as the residential construction industry in the Okanagan faces countless challenges that are impacting housing affordability at the local level. Soaring land costs, rising municipal fees, changes to the Building Code and an aging trades worker population have all led to the continued rising costs of new housing throughout the region. These challenges are further compounded by a nation-wide demand for an increase in housing supply. In Kelowna, the recently-released Housing Needs Assessment called for a doubling in new home construction over the next eight years.
